The Last Human Book

What the Future Looks Like to Someone Born Without a State

Born in Damascus to a Palestinian father and a Syrian mother, Ammar Shawesh left for Austria in 2011 to study, expecting to return. The war changed that. In Italy he built his adult life, his family and his work, and today he is an Italian citizen.

From that biography the book widens to war, politics, technology, memory, knowledge, work, responsibility and the Mediterranean. It is not a prediction. It is a reasoned testimony from 2026: what we see while everything accelerates, which risks we can recognise, which possibilities are worth keeping, and which questions must stay open.

If this book defends anything, it is not the human against technology. It defends the human within technology: the possibility of using it to become more capable without ceasing to be responsible for what we do.
